Taken out of context

I’m going to Florence next week. A few days to stroll around a strange place on my own. I haven’t bought a guidebook, and my preparation thus far has been to start re-reading Machiavelli’s The Prince.

Right near the beginning, there is the following quote. It’s actually about the ruthless consolidation of power necessary on rising to a throne, but taken in isolation I quite like it.

‘One change always leaves a dovetail into which another will fit.’
